When bugs appear

Bugs filter on four things at once: season, an hour window, weather and habitat. The windows are tighter than for fish — many bugs are only out for a few hours — and hour values above 24 continue past midnight, so 20–26 means 8pm to 2am.

Weather scales the overall spawn rate rather than gating individual bugs: rain and snow multiply spawns by 0.8, storms and blizzards by 0.3. Clear days are simply better for bug hunting.

The location column follows the game's own grouping. Town and fields is the open country around Mistria — the farm, the town and the roads between them — while three areas keep insects of their own: twenty-five species turn up only in the mines, six only on the beach and five only in the deep woods. Thirteen more span several areas, and one skims water rather than land.

Rarity and traps

Within an eligible pool, spawn weight is 15 for common, 14 for uncommon, 3 for rare and 1 for very rare — so a very rare bug is roughly fifteen times less likely to appear than a common one sharing its window.

Some bugs only respond to a lure: light draws night fliers, and a few appear only where pheromones have been applied. Bugs are museum donations and, for a few villagers, gifts — though most villagers dislike the whole bug category, so check the gift finder first.
