How this works

Where each recipe is made

A recipe's output item determines which station you use. Food and drink use the kitchen. Items tagged for blacksmithing use the forge, furniture uses the woodcrafting bench and milled goods use the mill. All other items go to the stone refinery.

Cooking recipes also have a kitchen tier. A tier 2 recipe requires an upgraded kitchen, even if your cooking skill is high.

Is cooking worth it?

Each recipe compares the shipping-bin value of its ingredients with the value of the finished dish. This shows whether the dish sells for more or less than its ingredients. Star rank sets the price: a one-star dish sells for 1.1 times the ingredient total, and a five-star dish sells for 1.3 times that total. The game then rounds the price down to a clean number.

Two perks raise affection from cooked gifts by ten percent: one applies to liked dishes and the other to loved dishes. A dish that sells for less than its ingredients may still be worth making as a gift. Check the gift finder before judging a recipe by price alone.

Craft time

Recipes take in-game time, which matters most early on. Several perks cut ten minutes from recipes at their matching station. Milling follows a different rule: its timer runs only while you are standing in the Mill.
