Legendary fish: weather, bait, and where they bite
The four legendary fish, the exact conditions each one needs, and why the Legendary perk comes first.
The short answer
Four legendary fish exist, each tied to one season, one water type and one weather event: cherry fish in spring ponds on special-weather days, lightning fish in summer rivers during heavy storms, leaf fish in fall rivers on special days, and snow fish in winter oceans during blizzards. All four need the Legendary fishing perk, which is why they never appear early in the game.

Each is a normal-sized catch in its own season and water. The unusual conditions are the weather event and perk requirement. “Special weather” is the game’s wind-day category, which occurs only in spring and fall; summer and winter have no special days. Heavy inclement means the storm or blizzard grade of rain or snow.
These are the only catches gated by a perk: Legendary in the fishing tree. Even the correct weather and water cannot produce a legendary fish until you have it. The perk appears later in the tree, so raise fishing skill before planning a hunt.
How to hunt one
- Unlock the Legendary perk first. Legendary fish cannot spawn before it is active.
- Check the calendar and weather. Special weather only falls in spring and fall; heavy storms in summer and winter. The calendar page shows the forecast pattern for each season.
- Stand in the right water. Pond for cherry fish in spring, river for lightning and leaf fish, ocean for snow fish.
- Use bait to raise the odds. Legendary fish are uncommon-rarity catches. Use Uncommon Fish Bait in the correct water to target that part of the pool. The fishing guide explains how bait works.
- Keep casting. A legendary fish can appear on any cast in the right conditions; the weather lasts all day, so the whole day is your window.
What they are worth
Legendary fish sell for a good price and also complete museum sets. Finished sets pay rewards and renown (museum guide). The fishing page and fish database show each fish’s place in the museum order, making missing legendary fish easy to check.
Common mistakes
- Hunting before the perk. Correct weather and water still produce no legendary fish without the Legendary perk. Check the skills page before leaving.
- Wrong weather grade. A calm day in the right season produces nothing. The heavy-inclement fish need the storm/blizzard grade, not light rain.
- Selling the first one. Bank the first legendary catch for the museum; duplicates are the ones to sell.
