How this works

Why the farm looks bigger than it farms

Your farm is a grid of 14,214 tiles, and three numbers describe it. 114 are bare dirt you can hoe on your first morning. 12,673 become farmland once you have turned the grass over with a shovel — that is the real size of the place. And 1,541 never will: 1,113 of them are water and 428 are riverbank.

The riverbank is the one that catches people out. It looks like ordinary ground at the water's edge, and a hoe will never take it, no matter how much you clear. A building, on the other hand, sits on it happily — so the strip along the river is worth keeping for a coop rather than fighting over.

Hoeing and building follow different rules

The game asks two different questions. To hoe, it checks that the ground is dirt or soil. To place a building, it only checks that the tile is ground and that nothing is standing there — the kind of ground does not matter at all.

That is why a barn goes straight onto grass while a hoe bounces off it, and why the riverbank takes a building but never a crop. The planner applies both tests separately, so a tile that refuses your hoe will tell you which of the two reasons it is.

Using the planner

Paint the tiles you intend to farm and the counter splits them into what you can hoe today and what still needs a shovel. Drag to paint, switch to the move tool to pan, and use the wheel or a pinch to zoom. The plan stays in your browser, so you can come back to it.

The dashed rectangle is the fenced field the expansion opens. Buying it from Ryis costs 40,000g plus fifty refined stone and fifty hard wood, and it does not change the terrain — the ground inside was always farmable, it was simply fenced off. Switch to the expanded view to plan the whole farm at once.

What grows on those tiles is a separate question: the crop planner ranks this season's crops by gold per day, and the ranch animals page has the coop and barn sizes you will be fitting in.
