Moving animals, barns and coops without losing materials
Use the journal for one animal, or clear the whole building and rebuild it when the coop or barn itself is in the wrong place.
The short answer
Move one animal through its home field in the Animals journal. To move a barn or coop, place every occupant in another compatible building or in Hayden’s free daycare, choose Remove at the building nameplate, collect the returned blueprint and materials, then rebuild and bring the animals back.
Move one animal through the journal
Open the Animals section of the journal, choose the animal, then select the field that shows its current home. The building picker accepts only the right size and a building with a free stall. Small animals can move between coops; large animals can move between barns.
This changes the animal’s home immediately. It does not move the building and does not cost anything.
An animal that is waiting for offspring cannot move. If the game shows the pregnancy warning, wait for the birth or hatch before trying again. A pending baby also uses building capacity, so check the breeding guide before filling the last stall.
Move or replace a whole coop or barn
There is no drag tool for an existing ranch building. Remove and rebuild it instead:
- Move every animal out. The journal works when another compatible building has room. Otherwise, visit Hayden and choose Daycare at his shop ledger.
- Return to the farm and interact with the small nameplate beside the building entrance.
- Choose Remove. The game blocks this option while any animal still lives there.
- Pick up the blueprint, construction materials and items dropped from inside.
- Use the returned blueprint at the new location, refill the construction box with the returned materials, then move the animals back.
Daycare has no fee. Days spent there do not run the normal barn or coop care update, so return the animals after the new building is ready if you want daily products and heart progress to resume.
What Remove gives back
Removing an empty barn or coop returns the exact blueprint used for that building and every material from its construction recipe. You do not have to buy the blueprint a second time.
The building also drops these stored or installed items:
- contents of its internal chest
- Auto Feeder and everything still inside it
- Animal Sprite Statue and its remaining Essence
- animal products or other uncollected items waiting inside
Pick up the drops before leaving the farm. The refund makes relocation a rebuild job, not a new purchase, but the materials still have to go through the construction box at the new site.
Choose a building with enough space
| Building | Animal size | Stalls | Incubators | Feed slots |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small Coop | small | 4 | 1 | 4 |
| Medium Coop | small | 8 | 2 | 8 |
| Large Coop | small | 12 | 4 | 12 |
| Small Barn | large | 4 | 0 | 4 |
| Medium Barn | large | 8 | 0 | 8 |
| Large Barn | large | 12 | 0 | 12 |
Barn animals gestate in stalls, so barns do not have incubators. Coop eggs use the incubator count shown above. The animals page lists which species belongs in each size, while house and storage has the blueprint prices and construction materials.
A safe upgrade order
When replacing a small building with a larger one, you can avoid daycare if the farm has a second compatible building with spare stalls. Build the larger one first, move the animals through the journal, then remove the old building. If space or money is tight, daycare lets you clear the old footprint first and reuse its returned materials.
