Foraging, dig spots and artifact sets
Where forageables respawn, how dig spots work, and the archaeology wing of the museum.
The short answer
Dig spots appear daily across the map — one per location, two on the Western Ruins and one on the Beach — and each location draws from its own artifact set. The OOPART set only appears with the Well Placed perk, and farm dig spots only exist with the Former Farmers perk. Every artifact belongs to a five-item museum set.
Foraging: the daily respawn
Forageables — mushrooms, flowers, herbs and wild roots — respawn daily across the map. Each area has its own list: spring’s fiddleheads and wild leeks in town, the beach’s shells and seaweed, the Deep Woods’ rare finds. The item database shows every foraged item with its season and location.
The habit that matters: clear the same loop every morning. Because forage respawns daily, a five-minute route through town, the beach and the Eastern Road turns into a steady income and a museum that fills itself. The foraging perks on the skills page — Forager and Living off the Land — make this loop noticeably more productive.
Dig spots and artifact sets
Dig spots are the archaeology system. Every outdoor location gets one dig spot a day, except the Western Ruins (two) and the Beach (one extra buried spot). Digging there pulls from three draws: common finds, the OOPART set, and the location’s own set:
| Location | Its own artifact set |
|---|---|
| The Narrows | Aldarian |
| Eastern Road | Caldosian |
| Hayden’s Farm | Alda |
| Western Ruins | Ancient |
| Beach | Prehistoric |
| Deep Woods | Deep Woods |
| Mines | Mine |
| Your farm | Vintage Farm Tools |
Two perks reshape this map:
- Well Placed — without it, the five OOPART artifacts (the out-of-place items like the Black Tablet and the Weightless Stone) cannot be dug up at all.
- Former Farmers — the only way to get dig spots on your own farm, which otherwise has none.
The full artifact list and each set’s members are on the museum archaeology wing, and the archaeology data tags every artifact with its dig location.
The archaeology museum wing
All 100 artifacts form the museum’s archaeology wing as five-item sets — the loot table is the museum set. Donating a complete set pays a reward, and the wing pays a tiered sequence as you finish sets, so there is a real order of operations: dig, check which set is closest to complete, and push that one over the line first. The museum guide explains the reward ladder.
Fish traps, mist sights and the other tables
Not every artifact comes from digging. Four more sources exist:
- Rod-caught artifacts — the aquatic set, pulled from the fishing pool.
- Dive spots — the sunken set (diving guide).
- Fish traps — a trap-only set filtered by the trap’s rarity.
- Mist sights — a small uniform table with the five mist artifacts alongside cosmetics.
Between digging, fishing and diving, every artifact in the game has a path — the trick is knowing which source each set needs, which is exactly what the museum page and the item database tell you.
A practical collection loop
- Run the daily dig loop: one spot per location, plus the extra spots on the Western Ruins and Beach.
- Take Well Placed early if artifacts are a goal — it gates five of the 100.
- Keep a copy of every new artifact for the museum before selling duplicates.
- Check the archaeology wing for the set closest to completion and target its missing pieces (museum guide).
