The request board and every quest type
How the request board is built each day, what the six quest types are, and why the board is the game\u2019s main progression lever.
The short answer
There are 374 quests in six categories: fetch errands, the story arc, heart events, crown requests, and the cooking and monster-hunting challenges. The request board offers a random fetch errand every day plus any fixed quests whose conditions you have met, and each pays 20 renown — the largest steady renown source in the game.
The six quest types
| Type | Count | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Fetch | 226 | Request-board errands, mostly “bring me N of X” |
| Story | 57 | The main arc: town repairs, seals, festivals |
| Heart | 47 | Villager heart events |
| Crown | 20 | Capital shipping requests, one at a time |
| Cooking challenges | 12 | Tali’s cooking contests |
| Monster challenges | 12 | Stillwell’s monster-hunting contests |
Fetch quests dominate the count because they are the board’s daily grist. The others come from the story, from villagers, or from special boards.
How the daily board is built
The request board is rebuilt every morning and its contents are fixed for that day:
- If a crown request is due, the next one in the fixed order is posted.
- Every fixed board quest whose requirements you have met is posted.
- One random fetch errand is drawn and added (from day two on).
- Anything already active or completed is dropped.
The result: a small, doable list every morning. Because the random errand is drawn from the whole pool, the same request can repeat across days, but the board always offers at least one fresh task.
Why the board is the renown engine
Almost every fetch errand pays 20 renown (two of them pay 40), and the board offers one daily. Over a season that is a steady several hundred renown on top of everything else — and quests in total pay 9,420 renown, over half the 18,006 needed for the town-rank cap. The renown guide explains how the three sources compare.
Crown requests: the capital’s orders
Crown requests come one at a time, spaced seven days apart, and ask for larger quantities — batches of crops, fish, ingots or refined materials. They pay well in gold and renown, and they are worth keeping an eye on so a request does not demand something you just shipped.
Heart quests and the romance link
Heart quests are the villager story events, unlocked by friendship levels. They are worth doing for the dialogue and the gifts, and some intersect with the mines story — the Dragonsworn Tablet quest needs two specific 8-heart events (seal guide). The gifting guide covers how to reach the heart levels.
Challenges: Tali and Stillwell
Tali’s cooking challenges and Stillwell’s monster-hunting challenges are score-based: the better your dish or the rarer your haul, the better the reward band. They run on their own schedules and are the most skill-based quests in the game — worth attempting once you have the recipes or combat to back them up.
A daily quest routine
- Check the board every morning and take the fetch errand — 20 renown for an item you probably have.
- Keep a stock of common request items. Ores, fish, crops and forageables cover most errands; a small chest of spares means most days the errand is instant.
- Never let a crown request slip. They are the biggest single gold payouts in the quest system.
- Do story quests as they appear. They unlock the map and the endgame (mines guide).
